Classroom Volunteer Opportunities

Do you enjoy spending time with young children? Come volunteer in one of our diverse early learning classrooms. Volunteers help to enhance educational experiences and serve as positive role models to our youngest learners.

We are seeking adults, parents, grandparents, college students, and other community members to help create warm, enriching, and engaging classroom environments for young children.

If you are interested in serving as a volunteer and making a positive difference, please contact Kelley Newell at [email protected] or (802) 651-4180 ext. 210 to discuss volunteer placement opportunities.

A typical day as a volunteer:

  • Provide and maintain safe, healthy, friendly, and developmentally appropriate environments for EHS & HS children.
  • Help with daily set up and clean-up of classrooms in order to maintain a healthy environment.
  • Ensure children are accounted for and safe while in our classroom.
  • Have fun! Run, jump, and play with the children!
  • Share a book, help with a craft, and go outside!

Community Leadership Volunteer Opportunities

Do you want to help shape the future of a vital community organization? Volunteer as a Community Representative for the Head Start Policy Council. Similar to a school board or “PTO” for the Head Start program, the Policy Council is comprised of current Head Start parents and members of the local community.

Responsibilities of the Policy Council include:

  • Partner with the Head Start Management Team to develop and approve the program’s goals and objectives.
  • Approve guidelines used in selecting children and families for Head Start.
  • Review funding applications and grant proposals, the annual program self-assessment, and other important program policies.

Commitment: Community Representatives attend the Policy Council meetings which occur locally once per month (usually the second Monday of the month) and last approximately two hours.  We seek a commitment to serve on Policy Council from November to October. Mid-year volunteers are welcome!

Benefits to you: Gain experience in the development of community-based services and non-profit management. Network with professionals, parents and others in the community.   Add experience to your resume!
